Gregory Baum

Gregory Baum (1923 -) est un théologien, un philosophe et un professeur canadien.

Né à Berlin d'une mère juive et d'un père protestant, il immigre au Canada en 1940 et entreprend des études en mathématiques, recevant un baccalauréat de l'Université McMaster.

Converti au catholicisme, il réoriente ses études vers la théologie, obtenant un doctorat à l'Université de Fribourg en 1956. Expert du concile Vatican II, il enseigne ensuite au collège Saint Michael de l'Université de Toronto.

À partir de 1962, il se préoccupe de l'œcuménisme en fondant la revue The Ecumenist. Défroqué, il s'établit à Montréal en 1986. Il a perdu une partie de son influence après son défroquage. En 2006, il enseigne à la faculté des sciences religieuses de l'Université McGill.

Auteur de plusieurs ouvrages, il a analysé le développement du magistère romain au XX^e siècle selon le point de vue du libéralisme théologique. Il est membre du centre justice et foi.

Il a entre autres développé une théologie positive de l'homosexualité. [1]
