I do not speak French very well, but the German on this page is not correct. mir ist die Vase kaputt gegangen, if it's supposed to mean "the vase was broken by me" should be die Vase ist von mir kaputt gegangen, which directly translates to something like "the vase has by me broken been."

Also, es ist ihm sein Buch does not exactly make sense.

A better example could be "mir ist kalt" which means "I am cold" or, more literally, "to me, it is cold." "Ich bin kalt" which literally means "I am cold" implies that the person talking is cold by nature.

For another example, "Ich habe ihm das Buch gegeben", which literally is "I have to him the book given." but means "I gave him the book."
