Sweetheart of the Rodeo (1968) est un album du groupe de country rock américain The Byrds. C’est un album de musique rock mais avec des influences Bluegrass, Folk et Country. Il est souvent considéré comme le meilleur album des Byrds.

Il a été classé 117 ème dans la liste des 500 meilleurs albums de tous les temps du magazine Rolling Stone en 2003

Après la sortie de The Notorious Byrd Brothers et le départ de David Crosby et de Michael Clarke, les deux membres restant du groupe, Roger McGuinn et Chris Hillman ont recruté Kevin Kelley (cousin de Hillman) et Gram Parsons.

Gram Parsons était un amateur de musique country, comme les Byrds avaient déjà expérimenté avec cette musique dans leurs deux derniers albums, ils décidèrent d’aller à Nashville pour donner un son country à leur nouveau disque.

Sweetheart of the Rodeo ne fut pas un succès commercial, pas plus que leur simple "You Ain't Going Nowhere". Cependant c’est un album qui fera date et qui aura de nouvelles éditions en 1997, avec huit titres supplémentaires, et en 2003 avec un second disque, comprenant notamment des morceaux chantés par Gram Parsons alors qu'ils avaient été refaits par Roger McGuinn dans la version diffusée en 1968. Refusant une tournée en Afrique du Sud, Parsons et Hillman quittèrent le groupe peu après la sortie de l'album et fondèrent The Flying Burrito Brothers.
