Richard (Rick) Wakeman (né le 18 mai 1949) est l'un des claviéristes de Yes, considéré comme le plus représentatif de la composition de ce groupe à l'effectif éminemment variable.

Auteur d'un grand nombre d'albums solo à l'intérêt également variable, les meilleurs et mieux vendus étant généralement les plus anciens.

The Six Wives of Henry VIII et Criminal Record sont généralement considérés comme ses meilleurs albums. No earthly connection et White Rock, plus curieux, ont aussi l'estime de spécialistes.

Cette période de rock progressif se termine avec « Rhapsodies ». Rick Wakeman produira encore un album à gros moyens pour Charisma, « 1984 », avec des texte de Tim Rice et la participation de Jon Anderson et Chaka Khan, qui sera un échec commercial.

La suite de sa carrière sera marquée par ses allers-retours dans le rôle de claviériste de Yes et un grand nombre d'albums moins puissants, parmi lesquels plusieurs albums New Age, et les New Gospels et African Bach, qui lui ouvriront l'accès au public sud-américain.

Son fils Adam Wakeman, également claviériste virtuose, apparaît sur plusieurs albums de sa production récente.
