Sailboats making their way towards the Pacific via the Panama Canal enter the Banana Cut in Lake Gatún. The Banana Cut is a narrow shortcut which is used by canal service boats and other small vessels. These boats are using sail as well as power to reach the Pedro Miguel lock in time for their transit down; the trade winds blowing south through the canal area are helping them on their way.
