Description

Flag of the Ottoman Empire according to the Catalan Atlas c.1375. I am not 100% certain the flag looked exactly like this, but I am quite confident it did. The crescent-shaped devices in the quarters are stylized version of the en:Kayi en:Oghuz en:Tamgha of the Osmans. It is clear to see how this stylized bow became the familiar crescent.
