Die Honigbienen produzieren Bienenwachs, indem sie aus ihren Wachsdrüsen kleine Wachsplättchen ausgeschwitzen, die anfangs weiß und fast durchsichtig sind, solange sie nicht von den Bienen zum Bau von Waben verwendet werden. Das Bild zeigt unten solche Wachsplättchen, oben eine Mittelwand, wie sie vom Inker aus Bienenwachs gefertigt und in Rähmchen ins Bienenvolk gehängt wird. Dadurch wird der Bau der Waben beschleunigt.
