Andreas Feininger

Andreas Feininger (né à Paris le 27 décembre 1906, mort à New York le 18 février 1999) est un photographe américain. Il est le fils du peintre Lyonel Feininger.

Né à Paris d'une famille américaine d'origine allemande. Son père, le peintre Lyonel Feininger étant né à New York en 1871 et son grand père étant un émigrant allemand de Durlach en Bade-Wurtemberg, ayant rejoint New York en 1848. Il suit une éducation d'architecte à Hambourg en Allemagne et se passionne très vite pour la photographie et suit les cours de Bauhaus à Weimar et à Dessau. En 1936 il devient architecte et émigre en Suède et se consacre véritablement à la photographie. En 1939 avant le début de la Seconde Guerre mondiale il émigre à New York où il s'établit en tant que photographe freelance. En 1943 il rejoint le magazine Life auquel il participera jusqu'en 1962.

Feininger sera connu pour ses photographies de New York. Il a également participé à la rédaction de livres de vulgarisation sur la photographie
